DESCRIPTION:Course Description\nRooftop Quality Assurance (RTQA) is a two-day course for professionals interested in performing observation services to assure the roof installation is consistent with construction documents and ownership requirements. The program includes thorough overviews of the major roof system assemblies which the professional observer will encounter when performing rooftop quality ensure services for ownership/design groups. The course includes in-depth descriptions of the observer’s roles and responsibilities for proven success in the field. RTQA is designed to cover all aspects of the rooftop quality assurance process, including differing roof installation conditions, and resolving issues that arise during construction and renovation. Expected outcomes include recognizing regional application installation procedures in differing locations.\n2. Explain installation and repair methods consistent with project-specific roof systems and assemblies.\n3. Identify the most appropriate, major roof system components and subsequent roof selection recommended for systems located in varying geographical locations.\n4. Outline mitigation strategies to common problems and deficiencies in roof systems and roof system installations.  Develop an understanding of common problems inherent in each system and to recognize roof installation deficiencies in a timely manner. This understanding then translates into effective discussions with the contractor team to resolve important issues for clients and stakeholders.\nKnowledge Level\nIntermediate\nPrerequisites\nNone\nPresenters\nJerry Abendroth, RRO, RBEC, CDT\nJerry Abendroth joined the IIBEC team as an education advisor in 2022. His responsibilities include review and revision of major course offerings from IIBEC and participation on educational committees. He also provides independent building enclosure consulting services on select projects.\nAbendroth and several partners established Building Exterior Solutions LLC in September 2008. His experience includes the new design and forensic evaluation of building enclosure systems. He has performed design peer reviews of building envelopes, as well as, building enclosure commissioning for many commercial, medical, and industrial projects. In addition, he has performed evaluations of building enclosure system failures on projects throughout the United States and has provided associated repair recommendations and designs. Abendroth has also been able to utilize his extensive knowledge of building enclosure systems in a litigation support role. Finally, with Abendroth’s previous construction experience, he is able to provide insight into the cost, constructability, and sequencing of building enclosure systems.\n\nAbendroth was formerly the owner of a firm specializing in federal government contracting. He completed roofing, waterproofing, and renovation projects, including roof designs and roof surveys, for the United States Air Force, the United States Coast Guard, the Department of Veterans Affairs, and the United States Department of Labor. The firm’s projects included roof repair and replacement, mechanical upgrades, electrical upgrades, interior and exterior renovation, and building construction.\n\n \nBurt Carver, RRO, RRC\nBurt Carver is the owner of Apex Building Sciences Inc., founded in 2008. He has been involved in the building enclosure sector since 1998. During that time he has worked in a variety of sectors, including restoration, new construction, and asset management. As one of his roles, his focus has been the assessment and remediation of building enclosures. At IIBEC he has been involved with the RRO Exam Development Subcommittee, the RRC Exam Development Subcommittee, the Chapter Development Committee, and the Advocacy Committee.
