SUMMARY:Reroofing – Virtual Seminar
DESCRIPTION:\nDates: April 4 & 5, 2023\nTime: 1:00 p.m. EST-4:00 p.m. EST\nLive virtual course sessions will take place via Zoom.  Registrants will receive an email to confirm enrollment in the Reroofing course in the LearnUpon platform to access the live session login information.\n\nCourse Description\nThis course covers a range of concepts, including a discussion of the steps required for the roof consultant to successfully evaluate an existing roof and to make decisions regarding roof design using available references, resources, and evaluation techniques. Speakers will present a review of reroof options and decision-making principles, building code considerations, reroof considerations, and examples of roof systems. Proper preparation of plans and specifications is presented to clarify the delivery of these documents. The roles of the stakeholders in the bid process are discussed.  This course examines the elements required to properly execute meetings, project site visits, design resolutions, and project closeout.  This course is designed for building consultants, architects, and engineers who regularly engage in the renovation of existing buildings (schools, office buildings, industrial buildings, etc.).\nLearning Objectives\n\nDefine reroofing terminology.\nIdentify reference and resource materials for reroofing applications.3. Recognize and select proper methods and techniques for performing visual observations of existing roof systems, roof scanning, and investigation.\n4. Consider building code requirements and how to incorporate code compliance into reroof designs.\n5. Explain the preparation of reroof design documents and how to deliver those documents properly for bid processing.\nDescribe the processes and procedures required to successfully execute preconstruction meetings, project site visits, design changes in the field, and project closeout.\n\nSpeakers\nJerry Abendroth, RBEC, RRO, CDT\nJerry Abendroth joined the IIBEC team as an education advisor in 2022. His responsibilities include review and revision of major course offerings from IIBEC and participation on educational committees. He also provides independent building enclosure consulting services on select projects.\nAbendroth and several partners established Building Exterior Solutions LLC in September 2008. His experience includes the new design and forensic evaluation of building enclosure systems. He has performed design peer reviews of building envelopes, as well as, building enclosure commissioning for many commercial, medical, and industrial projects. In addition, he has performed evaluations of building enclosure system failures on projects throughout the United States and has provided associated repair recommendations and designs. Abendroth has also been able to utilize his extensive knowledge of building enclosure systems in a litigation support role. Finally, with Abendroth’s previous construction experience, he is able to provide insight into the cost, constructability, and sequencing of building enclosure systems.\nAbendroth was formerly the owner of a firm specializing in federal government contracting. He completed roofing, waterproofing, and renovation projects, including roof designs and roof surveys, for the United States Air Force, the United States Coast Guard, the Department of Veterans Affairs, and the United States Department of Labor. The firm’s projects included roof repair and replacement, mechanical upgrades, electrical upgrades, interior and exterior renovation, and building construction.\n \nBruce Hall, RBEC, RRC, RWC, REWC\n \nCourse Authors\nJerry Abendroth, RBEC, RRO, CDT\nJeremiah Webster, RBEC, RRC, REWC, RWC, RRO, PE\n \nCourse Reviewers\nDale B.
