SUMMARY:Roof Assemblies: Low-Slope Components (Live Virtual Course)
DESCRIPTION:Roofing Practice Series\nRoofing Assemblies: Low-Slope Components\nDate: April 8, 2026\nTime: Noon–4:00 p.m. ET\nPrice: $295.00/members, $450.00/nonmembers\nRegister HERE!  ( https://iibec.users.membersuite.com/events/b9e368ec-0078-cceb-dfe6-0b492687c44a/details )\nRegistration price listed is for one individual registration. For information on group pricing, reach out to education@iibec.org.\nThe live course will take place via Zoom. Registrants will receive an email to confirm enrollment. Access the live course login information in the LearnUpon platform.\nKnowledge Level: Intermediate\nIIBEC Core Competency: Roofing\nContinuing Education Credit Information\nThis activity has been approved for 3.5 IIBEC CEH.\nThis activity has been approved for 3.5 AIA LU/HSW.\nAIA Course number: RP_RA_COMP_L\nAIA Provider number: G024\nRecommended Prerequisites\n\nFamiliarity with basic building terminology.\nAbility to interpret architectural drawings such as plans, sections, and details.\nComprehension of fundamental building science concepts related to structure, moisture, and heat, such as building loads, drainage, condensation, vapor drive, heat flow, and thermal resistance.\n\nLearning Objectives\nAt the end of this educational activity, the learner will be able to:\n\nDescribe the role and main functions of roof decks, substrate board, air barriers, vapor retarders, insulation, and cover board in roof assemblies.\nCategorize and identify the characteristics of each of these roof components.\nSummarize design considerations for each of these roof components.\nExplain the history of, and rationale for, protected membrane roof assemblies; identify their components and variations; and summarize design considerations, concerns, and opportunities related to these roof systems.\n\nDescription\nThis course covers topics relevant to the practice of roof consulting and related roofing activities, including the design, manufacture, installation, observation, inspection, and maintenance of roof components and assemblies. It is targeted at current and prospective roof consultants, roof observers, architects, engineers, contractors, building owners, manufacturer’s representatives, students, and all other learners already in or planning to enter the building enclosure profession.\nThe course is divided into three modules:\n\nThe first module, “Decks,” addresses the role and function of roof decks within the roof assembly, the categorization and characteristics of different types of roof decks, and key design parameters related to each of the main types.\nThe second module, “Substrate Board to Cover Board,” covers substrate board, air barriers, vapor retarders, insulation, and cover board, addressing the function, categorization, and design criteria for each of these components. Focus is given to integration of these components into the overall building enclosure to provide thermal and moisture protection.\nThe third module, “Protected Membrane Roof (PMR) Assemblies,” explains how and why roof components are arranged in specific ways in this assembly, describes the unique characteristics of roof components as adapted for PMR assemblies, and explains the special design considerations of these systems.\n\n \nSpeakers\nElizabeth Grant, PhD, RA\nScott Hinesley, F-IIBEC, RRC, PE\nModerator\nSamir Ibrahim, F-IIBEC, AIA\nCourse Author\nElizabeth Grant, PhD, RA\nCourse Reviewers\nRichard L.
