IIBEC values your privacy and believes you should always know what data we collect from you and how we use it. We want to empower you to make the best decisions about the information you share with us while giving you control over your personal data.
On May 25, 2018, a new directive by the European Union (EU) went into effect called the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). This gives people living in the EU more control over the use of their data collected on websites and requires businesses doing business in the EU or with people living in the EU to protect their personal data and privacy. We are updating our Privacy Policies to take into account these requirements. Please review this policy if privacy concerns you—whether or not you live in the EU.
IIBEC does not collect any personal information from users browsing its website. Only aggregate data, such as the number of hits per page, are collected. These data are used only for internal and marketing purposes and do not provide any personally identifying information.
To gain access to resources and personalization features on iibec.org and to purchase IIBEC products and services, individuals voluntarily supply such information as name, member number (for members), organization name, phone, e-mail address, etc. Similar information may be submitted to IIBEC through application processes and via registrations and attendance at IIBEC events and classes and at trade shows and other industry events in which IIBEC participates.
Some e-mails sent in HTML format through IIBEC’s electronic newsletters and list servers may collect specific information regarding what the recipient does with that e-mail, such as whether the e-mail is opened and clicked through to other links. Our web servers automatically record domain names of the websites of visitors to our sites. They keep track of the pages visited on our websites and the amount of time spent on those pages. This information helps us to enhance our communication and products by allowing us to do statistical analysis that helps to identify interest of recipients. IIBEC reserves the right to make statistical analyses of user behavior and characteristics thus collected, to use it internally to strategize, promote, and serve IIBEC and its membership, and to inform advertisers and sponsors of such information in the aggregate.
IIBEC also makes member contact information (including name, designation(s), membership type, company, address, phone number, e-mail address, and professional service areas) available through the IIBEC Membership Directory. On occasion, IIBEC may also provide these same data (exclusive of e-mail addresses) to third parties that offer products and services. Users may request to opt out of disclosing the data to third parties and in being listed on the member directory. An opt-out box will appear on each form on which a user provides information. Users may also contact IIBEC at info@iibec.org or 919-859-0742 to express or change their preferences.
IIBEC does not disclose the credit card account information it obtains. Online transactions are secured using commercially accepted methods of encryption. Although we do all that we can to ensure the safety of such information, be aware that no method of electronic transmission is completely infallible, and we cannot guarantee its absolute safety. Should a security breach be detected, those affected will be contacted within 72 hours of detection of said breach, and action will be taken to ameliorate the situation.
Cookies are messages that web servers pass to your web browser when you visit Internet sites. They store information to provide smoother navigation on websites (such as saved passwords). You can set your computer to disable cookies or to alert you when cookies are being used. Disabling of cookies from IIBEC’s website could cause areas of the website not to function on your computer.
IIBEC occasionally uses lists purchased from other associations and list providers to promote membership and possible educational opportunities for members and nonmembers and for surveying purposes.
IIBEC’s website, e-mails, newsfeed articles, and digital IIBEC Interface provide links to other third-party websites and applications, such as individual and company websites and social media sites such as LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube. IIBEC is not responsible for the privacy practices on these other sites. We encourage you to read the privacy statements of each website that you visit before providing any personal information.
Use of IIBEC’s website indicates your acceptance of our private policy as contained herein. Continued visits after changes are posted to this policy signals acceptance of those changes. Updates to this policy may be made at any time and without prior notice and will be effective immediately.
