What geographical region do you serve?
New England
What events does your chapter currently have planned?
First, we have our annual golf tournament on June 5, 2023 at Charter Oaks Country Club. Then our next monthly presentation and dinner is scheduled for April 27, 2023, where Mr. Patrick Norton of Wessling Architects will be presenting, “Resources for Researching Existing Buildings”.
In your opinion, what was the most successful event that your chapter has hosted in the last year?
Our most successful recent events include the annual IIBEC New England Golf Tournament, the annual IIBEC New England Lobster Bake, and a joint event that IIBEC New England and the National Association of Women in Construction hosted called “Women, A Building Story” which provided both a panel discussion and an opportunity for networking.
Does your chapter donate to or support a charity?
Yes, we are pleased to be able to provide annual donations to the RCI-IIBEC Foundation, the Jimmy Fund | Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, Project Hope Boston, the Angel Fund for ALS Research, Make-a-Wish, Hearth Senior Housing, and other charities in addition to the annual scholarship program with Massasoit Community College. In 2022 we were able to donate approximately $16,000 to various charities.
Tell us about your members! How have they had an impact on the community or association?
We are proud to say Mr. William Waterston, who was presented with the Joe F. Hale Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2023 IIBEC Convention, is both a long term member and Treasurer of IIBEC New England. Bill was honored for his lifetime of service to the association, as a previous interim region director, and long-term member and chair of the annual convention committee and Building Enclosure Symposium committee, as well as for his service to our chapter. Congratulations, Bill!
What are your goals for the upcoming years?
Our chapter is continuing to focus on increasing student involvement at our chapter events to provide educational and networking opportunities as we understand they are the future of the building enclosure industry.
This aligns with our mission statement that, IIBEC New England is committed to representing the dedicated individuals that are looking to advance the profession of building (roofing, waterproofing, and exterior wall) consultants. The purpose of the New England chapter is to embrace the core values echoed by the national IIBEC organization including ethical, independent, objective, and unbiased practice, as well as the pursuit and exchange of knowledge through camaraderie and education. The New England chapter also promotes sustainability and resilience. Board members, officers, and chapter members instill a legacy for future members by maintaining a commitment to education and best practices as demonstrated by IIBEC National.
