IIBEC Chicago Chapter Hosts Summer Meeting, Plays Golf

By Patrick G. Giblin, RRO

The IIBEC Chicago Area Chapter hosted their 2019 summer meeting on Friday, September 13, 2019. The educational program consisted of a discussion panel format, which inspired a lively discussion about several hot topics related to troubleshooting the building enclosure. The following topics were discussed:

  • Moisture in roofing: construction-generated moisture and moisture in concrete
  • Roof drain design
  • Air barrier detailing
  • Product compatibility
  • Testing technologies
Panelists, seated at the table, from left: Pat Giblin, Allysia Youngquist, Tom O’Brien, Ray Makiejus, and Andrea Baird (Jason Tenpas is not pictured), with moderator Patrick Reicher on right.

Troubleshooting the building enclosure is a broad subject with many facets. Contributions from the audience provided a well-rounded perspective with representation from designers, contractors, and manufacturers alike. Chapter members and guests, regardless of their stake in the industry, provided insightful input that captured the essence of why IIBEC’s diverse membership is one of its strongest qualities. Tabletop exhibitors for the event were A&D Products LLC, Division 7-23 Group LLC, SJ Mallein & Associates, Tecta America Corp., and Versico Roofing Systems.

A round of golf followed the educational program, giving everyone the opportunity to end their week with some friendly competition. This year marked IIBEC Chicago Area Chapter’s third annual golf outing.

IIBEC Mid-Atlantic Chapter’s Tenth Annual Barbecue & Crab Feast

A wonderful time was had by all who attended the Mid-Atlantic Chapter’s crab feast, including consultants, roofers, suppliers, manufacturers, and building owners. They relished in warm summer weather and a very nice evening on the  Magothy River/Sillery Bay just off the Chesapeake Bay.

The 40-plus attendees enjoyed good food, a beautiful setting, and networking opportunities. Local Chesapeake Bay crabs were plentiful. Many thanks to those who attended and organized this to make it a success for the tenth consecutive year.

Mid-South Chapter Plays Golf for Charity

By IIBEC Mid-South Chapter Secretary Mike Sexton

The IIBEC Mid-South Chapter hosted their First Annual Charity Golf Event on August 16, 2019, at Kings Creek Golf Course in Spring Hill, TN, to support the ALS Association.

The event was a huge success with a tremendous amount of support and participation, including over 50 golfers (13 teams) and 16 hole sponsors. All of the participants and sponsors in this fun, best-ball scramble event had a chance to golf, enjoy a catered lunch by Martin’s BBQ (a Nashville favorite), and support the ALS Association through cash donations and the purchase of raffle tickets for several prizes that were generously donated by sponsors made up of local and regional businesses.

IIBEC Mid-South Chapter Secretary Mike Sexton spoke to the group following the golf event about upcoming events.
Gary Sweeney (Firestone Building Products) beat the heat with an ALS Ice Bucket Challenge.

One “nominated” participant, Gary Sweeney (Firestone) even raised some funds for the ALS Association by beating the heat and completing an ALS Ice Bucket Challenge. A highlight for the day was when Lynsay Walsh (Carlisle) spoke to the group about her personal involvement with the ALS Association and the important role it has within the community by supporting those affected with this horrible disease and their families. Special thanks to all the teams for participating in the event and to all the sponsors and volunteers. Without your help and participation, the event wouldn’t have been possible.

Lynsay Walsh (Carlisle) spoke to the participants about the ALS Association and its role and benefit as a support group in the community.

After enjoying a fun day of golf, laughs, and networking with local and regional industry representatives, the chapter was able to meet its goal of serving the IIBEC members and the community by making a donation to the ALS Association. Due to the success and positive feedback received, the chapter plans to make this charity event an annual tradition, with a goal of increasing the level of participation and donation at next year’s outing.

Congratulations to all the prize winners, including:
