On May 4, 2023, IIBEC leaders Brian Pallasch, executive vice president and chief executive officer, and John Boling, director of government relations, met with the EPDM Roofing Association Board of Directors at its meeting in Baltimore, Maryland, to share IIBEC’s plans over the next few years and to explore areas where our respective interests overlap.
After thanking the group for the invitation, Pallasch noted that communication between the roofing industry associations is a priority as evidenced by the monthly call of the government relations personnel, and the twice-yearly meeting of the roofing association leaders.
Next, in a wide-ranging discussion, Pallasch touched on a recent IIBEC gathering where the group’s leaders and stakeholders discussed updates to the IIBEC strategic plan and its main components: member value, education, credentials, and advocacy. Pallasch highlighted IIBEC’s newest credential, the CBECxP, applauded the 15 initial CBECxP certification holders, and briefly discussed the association’s commitment to quality education and a newly released education program on reroofing. Finally, Pallasch discussed the IIBEC advocacy program’s central tenets: the need for the independence of the design professional, the need for open competition in public procurement, and opposition to overly broad and undefined mandates and single-source product specifications. After a question-and-answer session both groups came away with a renewed focus to work together on issues of mutual interest.
