Volunteers Recognized at Awards Luncheon

Scores of RCI members and staff were recognized at the Awards Luncheon Sunday in the Houston Ballroom. Emcee Warren French made introductions of the board of directors, new CEO Lionel van der Walt, and of award presenters. Chairs of various committees introduced each award, and President Mike Williams handed out the awards to individuals.

Top awardee was David Hawn, the recipient of the RCI Lifetime Achievement Award for his longstanding service and contributions to the success of RCI. Hawn received a standing ovation and is only the fourth recipient of this award in the history of RCI.

Other top awards went to:

• Jerry Abendroth, who received the Michael DeFrancesco Volunteer of the Year Award, RCI’s top volunteer award
• Patrick Downey, William C. Correll Award for his contributions to the furtherance of the institute
• Micki Kamszik, William C. Correll Award for her longstanding contributions to the professionalism of the association
• Jennifer Hogan, awarded the Emerging Professionals Award
• Paul Buccellato, named to the RCI Jury of Fellows
• Michael Williams, named to the RCI Jury of Fellows
• Kip Gatto and Grace Wong, Horowitz Awardees for the best technical article in RCI Interface in 2017
• Derek Cundiff, new Registered Building Envelope Consultant (earned the RRC, RWC, and REWC)
• Daniel Montgomery, new Registered Building Envelope Consultant
• Charles Smith Jr., Edwin Williams Jr., and Paul Buccellato, recognized as Outstanding Educators for 2017
• Burt Carver, Michael Fell, Edwin Williams Jr., Michael Violette, and Neal Johnson as Outstanding Volunteers
• Steven Drennan, Michael Gardner, and Paul Kompauer as outgoing region directors

Numerous other individuals were recognized for contributions to committees, as newly minted registrants, and for being members for 20, 25, and 30 years.
