IIBEC Award Nominations

**Nominations for the 2023 awards season are now closed.  The IIBEC nomination portal will reopen to the IIBEC membership in August of 2024**

 

IIBEC Awards Selection Guidelines:
  • There is no requirement for any IIBEC award to be given annually;
  • All nominations for IIBEC awards must be submitted through the IIBEC awards nomination portal (below);
  • It is generally accepted that award recipients be living persons, but, in rare and extenuating circumstances, posthumous awards may be made.

President’s Award

Awarded to those who have made a significant contribution to IIBEC within the past year.  Awarded at the pleasure of the sitting president.

Rules & Criteria:

    •  Eligibility includes all members from any IIBEC member classification. Nonmembers will be considered on a case-by-case basis by the sitting president;
    • IIBEC members from all membership classifications are welcome to submit a nomination(s);
    • This award is limited to no more than three (3) annual recipients;
    • Qualified individuals for this award have demonstrated exemplary service to IIBEC on an institute level;
      • Service to a local chapter may be taken into consideration
    • Individuals may be eligible to receive this award more than once during their service to IIBEC;
    • Final determination made by sitting IIBEC president.

Michael DeFrancesco Outstanding Volunteer Award

Awarded to the volunteer whose contribution over the course of the past year(s) stands above the rest.

Rules & Criteria:

  • Eligibility includes all members from any IIBEC member;
  • IIBEC members from all membership classifications are welcome to submit a nomination(s);
  • Recipients must have been an active member of IIBEC for the past three (3) years;
  • This award is limited to no more than one (1) annual recipient;
  • Qualified individuals for this award have demonstrated exemplary service to IIBEC on an institute level to be eligible;
    • Service to a local chapter will be taken into secondary consideration;
  • Previous recipients of this award are not eligible to receive this award;
  • Final determination made by the IIBEC Awards Committee.

Joe F. Hale Lifetime Achievement Award

IIBEC’s most prestigious award. “Renamed for its first recipient Joe F. Hale in 2022, the Lifetime Achievement Award was presented for the first time in 2011 and is awarded to those individuals who have provided a lifetime of extraordinary service and contributions to the success of the International Institute of Building Enclosure Consultants.”

Rules & Criteria:

  • Eligibility includes all members from any IIBEC member classification;
  • IIBEC members from all membership classifications are welcome to submit a nomination(s);
  • This award is limited to no more than one (1) annual recipient;
  • Qualified individuals for this award have demonstrated exemplary service to IIBEC on an institute level;
    • Service to a local chapter will be taken into consideration;
  • Final determination made by the IIBEC Jury of Fellows.

Richard M. Horowitz Award

In 1995, IIBEC lost one of its most popular and dedicated members, past president Richard M. “Dick” Horowitz, RRC, F-IIBEC. Horowitz was a driving force behind IIBEC’s RRC exam and its technical journal, IIBEC Interface. In 1996, IIBEC named an award for the best technical article published in IIBEC Interface within the previous year.

Rules & Criteria:

  • Awarded for the best technical article in IIBEC Interface during the past year;
  • To be eligible, articles must not have been previously published outside of IIBEC Interface;
  • Final determination to be made by the IIBEC Horowitz Subcommittee.

IIBEC Emerging Professionals Award of Excellence

Awarded to an individual under 40 or within the first 10 years of their career who has shown exceptional leadership, professionalism, and/or industry contribution in their career in the profession of building enclosure consulting.

The final determination for this award is decided upon by the IIBEC Emerging Professionals Committee.

Rules & Criteria: 

  • Eligibility includes all members from any IIBEC member classification;
  • IIBEC members from all membership classifications are welcome to submit a nomination(s);
  • This award is limited to no more than two (2) annual recipients;
  • Candidates for award must have been an active member of IIBEC for at least two (2) years;
  • Qualified individuals for this award have demonstrated exemplary service to IIBEC on an institute level to be eligible;
    • Service to a local chapter will be taken into secondary consideration;
  • Candidates for this award shall hold an active IIBEC credential and must be under 40 and/or be within the first 10 years of their career;
  • Previous recipients of this award are not eligible to receive this award;
  • Final determination made by the IIBEC Awards Committee.

Joshua J. Summers Outstanding Educator Award

Formerly named the Outstanding Educator Award, in 2020, IIBEC renamed this prestigious award in memory of longtime IIBEC Education Committee Chair Joshua J. Summers, REWC, SE, PE. This award is presented to IIBEC members in recognition for exemplary service to IIBEC education (presentation and/or development) on an institutional and/or chapter level.

Rules & Criteria: 

  • Eligibility includes all members from any IIBEC member classification;
  • IIBEC members from all membership classifications are welcome to submit a nomination(s);
  • This award is limited to no more than two (2) annual recipients;
  • Qualified individuals for this award have demonstrated exemplary service to IIBEC in education (presentation or development) on an institute level;
  • Eligibility includes a minimum of participating in two (2) of the following areas within the previous four (4) years:
    • Developing and/or creating education at an institute level;
    • Presenting educational offerings at a chapter and/or institute level;
    • Developing and/or creating education at the chapter level;
    • Leading and participating in the offering of an IIBEC core course;
    • Participation on a national education course task force and/or participation in the development or presentation of national IIBEC webinar; and
    • Authoring and presenting at IIBEC-sponsored events such as the International Convention and/or the Building Enclosure Symposium.
  • Final determination to be made by the IIBEC Education Committee.

William C. Correll Exemplary Service Award

The William C. Correll Award honors IIBEC pioneer and first executive director, William Correll Sr., F-IIBEC, AIA.  Revised in 2023, it is presented to an IIBEC staff member who has demonstrated a high degree of professionalism, leadership, ethics, and unselfish dedication, contributing significantly to the growth and recognition of IIBEC.

Rules & Criteria: 

  • Eligibility includes IIBEC staff members, including chapter administrative staff;
  • IIBEC members from all membership classifications are welcome to submit a nomination(s);
  • Nominees must have been an IIBEC staff member for at least five (5) years;
  • This award is limited to one (1) annual recipient;
  • It is accepted that previous recipients are not eligible to receive this award, although in rare and extenuating circumstances, exceptions may be made;
  • Final determination by the IIBEC Awards Committee.

Herbert Busching Award

In 1994, the IIBEC Executive Committee established the Dr. Herbert Busching Award after the late Clemson University professor and engineer. Busching was a dedicated early member of IIBEC and the first chairman of the IIBEC Board of Regents. It is awarded to individuals who have contributed to the research, standards, and education of the roofing, waterproofing, and/or exterior wall industries.

Rules & Criteria:

  • Nominees must be active in the building enclosure profession for at least five (5) years but are not required to be active IIBEC members;
  • IIBEC members from all membership classifications are welcome to submit a nomination(s);
  • This award is limited to one (1) annual recipient;
  • Final determination by the IIBEC Jury of Fellows.

Induction Into the IIBEC Jury of Fellows


IIBEC Policy (as stated in the IIBEC Policy Guidelines):
  • Nominees for fellowship in IIBEC shall be nominated in writing to the Jury of Fellows by an IIBEC officer, director, jury member, or not less than five (5) voting members using the IIBEC nomination form.
  • A member may be advanced to fellowship only by a vote of the majority of the Jury.  If a nominee for fellowship fails to be advanced by vote of the Jury of Fellows, they shall not be disqualified thereby for later advancement.

IIBEC proudly recognizes the exceptional efforts of our members through various honors awarded at the discretion of the IIBEC President, various committees, or through the IIBEC Jury of Fellows.
