This live virtual webinar will take place via Zoom. Registrants will receive an email to confirm enrollment in the “Insulation: Material Properties and Considerations” course, which is accessible in the LearnUpon platform. The Zoom link/login information is posted within the course.

Description
This course is designed to expand the learner’s knowledge of building insulation systems and critical design considerations. Fire prevention, long-term thermal resistance, and building usage are among the many challenges that confront the insulation manufacturer, project designer, contractor, and end-user. The goal of proper product selection and installation is achieving healthy, energy-efficient, durable buildings. This presentation will review insulation types, applicable fire-resistance ratings, insulation capabilities, and insulation testing techniques. Building codes and industry standards that provide requirements for insulation will be reviewed. The intended audience is architects, engineers, building enclosure consultants, contractors, and building owners.

Knowledge Level: Intermediate

Recommended Prerequisite Knowledge
A basic understanding of insulation types, their properties, and functions in wall and roof assemblies will be required to understand the concepts presented.

Learning Objectives
At the end of this course, the learner will be able to:
1. Identify the basic categories and uses of commercial insulation systems.
2. Discuss how each insulation type can be utilized properly to help achieve energy-efficient, durable, and comfortable buildings.
3. Explain the process of moisture infiltration into insulation systems and the corresponding loss of thermal performance.
4. Describe the application of codes and standards to insulation systems and to the building industry.

Speaker

Tiffany Coppock, AIA, NCARB, CDT, LEED AP, ASTM, RCI, EDAC
leads technical guidance in building science, testing, and documentation to design professionals and the Owens Corning team. Formerly, Coppock was a building science manager reviewing and answering technical questions on topics such as air barriers, waterproofing, VRAs, and insulation. With a bachelor of environmental design from Texas A&M University and master of architecture from the University of Colorado, she is a registered architect specializing in health care and historic preservation.

Aaron B. Nelson, RBEC, RRC, RWC, RRO, is the President of Roofing Technical Services. He started in the roofing industry just after graduating from high school by working as a sheet metal fabricator/installer. Working his way into the office of a commercial roofing contractor in Seattle, he worked as an estimator/project manager for 10 years. In 2004 He joined the consulting side of roofing and started working on projects across the nation. Nelson and the team at RTS provide consulting and quality-assurance observations for our clients on projects throughout the nation, working with various code and climate conditions that make each project unique
