Laura Kury joined IIBEC as an Operations Specialist on November 25, 2019. When asked how she feels about life at IIBEC, she said, “I enjoy variety, and this job has a lot of variety. I’ve worked for both large and small companies, and I’m enjoying a small office environment again.”

Kury is a Raleigh native and has worked in office administration for 20 years. She reports to COO Melany Elwell, and assists with operations, including accounting and human resources (HR) functions. She also assists the Membership Services department as needed.  She has previously worked for a utility, a property management firm, and an outplacement HR firm.

Kury met her husband, John, on the opening night of the Carolina Hurricanes hockey season when the franchise first opened in Raleigh in 1999.  They were both members of a group, and she and her friend offered to share their popcorn.  Little did she know, John loved popcorn. The two were married a year and half later. They have been married for nearly 19 years, and have two cats named Reece and Chloe.

She is often asked where she gets her beautiful glass works. Her friend since college is a glass blower. “She has shared her work with me through the years and helped me to appreciate handmade works of art,” says Laura.

Laura’s hero is her mom. “She is just amazing.”

In her off time, Kury enjoys spending time with family and friends, church life, going to the beach, and watching Carolina basketball.

When asked about her biggest work accomplishment, she said, “When you do operational work, you do a lot of small things to keep the office running. So, there aren’t many big climactic moments. I’ve had the opportunity to be involved in some large office moves. Moving several hundred people to another building, and having it go well—that is very satisfying.” Laura will get a chance to help IIBEC do this when it moves its offices to a new location this fall.
