In October of 2023, IIBEC was proud to host a record number of chapter and branch members, joined by IIBEC board members and professional staff, for an intensive day-and-a-half educational workshop covering all aspects of how to run a successful chapter. A record 71 attendees from across the US and Canada enjoyed presentations from IIBEC staff covering topics from best practices in delivering education to membership growth and retention, advocacy on a local level, and general administration tips and processes. Concluding the first day, IIBEC staff gave attendees a tour of the IIBEC offices, held a reception, and followed up with dinner in downtown Raleigh.
This annual event would not be possible without our wonderful sponsors, IB Roof Systems, Lightning Protection Institute (LPI), Situra, USG, and Siplast.
Thank you to all of our dedicated chapter and branch representatives who joined us for this year’s event. This is a staff favorite year after year, and we look forward to hosting a new group in 2024!
The IIBEC Gulf Coast Chapter in conjunction with the IIBEC Mexico City Branch participated in the 1st Annual Mexico Roofing Day on October 8, 2023. Mexico Roofing Day is an event that brings together experts in the commercial roofing industry for education and networking. The event drew 200 people and focused on technologies and advances in the roofing industry as presented by national and international experts in the field. Present at the event were the main manufacturers of roofing, waterproofing, and insulation technologies from the US and Canada. IIBEC First Vice President Robért Hinojosa and Executive Vice President and CEO Brian Pallasch provided an overview of IIBEC’s initiatives and mission to attendees.
IIBEC New England Chapter had a wonderful time at its annual Lobster Bake celebrating IIBEC’s 40th anniversary and kicking off fall. Hosted by Knollmeyer Building Corp. in North Andover, this year’s event included a “Better Consulting for Better Buildings” presentation by Matt Copeland of Copeland Building Envelope Consulting and a liquid-applied roofing and waterproofing membrane demonstration by Sika Corp. The weather was perfect, and attendance was great! It was such a success that the chapter is already discussing venues and sponsorships for 2024!
3rd Annual IIBEC CAC Golf Fundraising Event held at Village Links of Glen Ellyn in Glen Ellyn, Illinois
It was a beautiful day on the greens of the Village Links to get together with our industry’s golf lovers while raising money for the IIBEC Chicago Area Chapter’s work. More than 70 chapter members and guests attended the sold-out fundraiser, which started with 18 holes and wrapped up with a social event. A huge thank you goes to our sponsors! They are appreciated beyond words:
Chicago Area Chapter Board Member Ryan Schultz dominated by winning “the longest drive,” and his team also took first place. The chapter thanks all who participated to help achieve our fundraising goal and looks forward to another successful event next year!
In October, the IIBEC Chicago Area Chapter sponsored a successful in-person Roof System Thermal and Moisture Design course. A total of 19 students ranging from design professional veterans to emerging professionals attended the course, which provided robust learning, quality questions, and meaningful discussion.
Our chapter is grateful for the knowledgeable speakers who volunteered to present the course:
Patrick E. Reicher, REWC, REWO, SE Allysia C. Youngquist, AIA, NCARB Raymond A. Makiejus, RRC, RRO
Not only did attending qualify for 8 IIBEC CEHs and 8 AIA LU, but each student received a IIBEC coozie as part of our ongoing celebration of IIBEC’s 40th Anniversary. The analogy of the thermal and moisture control the IIBEC coozies provide compared to the subject matter of the day were not lost on these students!
The Chicago Are Chapter looks forward to providing more IIBEC national courses to our area.
The IIBEC Chicago Area Chapter (CAC) celebrated its20th anniversary alongside IIBEC’s 40th Anniversary on November 3, 2023, at the Revolution BrewPub in Chicago, Illinois.

We were excited to have CAC past presidents attend, as well as Brian Pallasch, IIBEC executive vice president and CEO, and Emily Lorenz, IIBEC’s senior director of technical services.
Pallasch kicked off the event with important updates from IIBEC before CAC’s president and master of ceremonies, Pat Giblin, relayed the benefits of joining IIBEC and our local Chicago Area Chapter.
The event featured two technical sessions: “Incorporating Continuous Insulation into Complex Building Design” by Brad Schwab of Schwab Group/Hunter Xci; and “Understanding the Causes and Significance of Facade Degradation” by Kimberly Steiner and George Reo of Wiss, Janney, Elstner Associates Inc.
