IIBEC Chicago Area Chapter Hosts Education to Close 2024

On October 4, 2024, the IIBEC Chicago Area Chapter sponsored a successful IIBEC core course, Rooftop Quality Assurance, at Maggiano’s in Oak Brook, Illinois.

Over 20 people, ranging from those with several decades in the building enclosure industry, at all levels of experience, attended.  The diverse knowledge and experience resulted in robust learning, quality questions, and meaningful discussion.

The chapter is grateful for the knowledgeable speakers who volunteered to present the course, including Chicago Area Chapter members Melissa Barrows-Lieb, RRC, RRO, CCCA, CDT, and Raymond A. Makiejus, RRC, RRO.

All who attended qualified for 8 IIBEC CEHs and 8 AIA LUs.  The IIBEC Chicago Area Chapter looks forward to providing more IIBEC national courses in our area. Please visit the Chicago Area Chapter website for upcoming chapter-delivered education at https://chicagoarea.iibec.org.

For more information on where to attend an IIBEC core course, please visit the IIBEC national calendar.

The IIBEC Chicago Area Chapter hosted another education and social event on November 1, 2024, at the historic Revolution BrewPub in Chicago.

It was a packed house, with 53 attendees comprising all types of industry members. The event started with networking and viewing videos from IIBEC’s winners of the 2024 IIBEC Excellence in Building Enclosure Consulting (EBEC) Awards.

The Chicago Area Chapter was honored to have Kristen Kennedy, IIBEC’s director of education; Emily Lorenz, IIBEC’s senior director of technical services; and Brian Pallasch, IIBEC’s executive vice president and CEO, attend the event.

Chapter president and master of ceremonies Melissa Barrows-Lieb relayed chapter accomplishments and advocacy efforts in Illinois. Pallasch provided important updates from IIBEC, including progress on IIBEC’s Strategic Plan , increased member value, advocacy, credentials, and knowledge transfer (including the redesigned Hub, debut of IIBEC’s Reroofing core course, and Case Conversations).

Two technical sessions were presented: “Over Cladding and Icon: The O’Hare Terminal One Roof and Glazing Project: A Case Study,” by Brian Mathus of Klein & Hoffman, and Steve Black and Brian Tuffy of Power Construction; and “Single Ply Roofs,” by Jeff Valentine of SOPREMA.

Special appreciation goes to our amazing sponsors: A&D Products LLC, Chicago Roofing Contractors Association (CRCA), All Weather Products, TopWet, and Hydrotech. The event concluded with socializing and networking.

IIBEC Mid-Atlantic Chapter Closes 2024 Strong

By Sherre Bartlett, Chapter President

We are gearing up to close out an amazing 2024!

On September 12, 2024, we hosted a joint dinner with the Baltimore-Washington Chapter of ICRI. More than 100 industry professionals attended the event. Kristen Westover with GAF provided an interesting and informative presentation titled “Wet Concrete Can RUIN a Good Roof Design: Insights to Cement Your Success!”

On October 3, we hosted our Annual Crab Feast. The week leading up to the feast provided torrential rains and terrible weather, but the skies parted and we had the perfect evening on the Chesapeake Bay to enjoy crabs, BBQ, and good company.

Lastly, on November 7, the chapter hosted its third and final full-day education seminar of the year. We had four talented speakers that delivered great presentations on such topics as coatings, self-adhering modified systems, system transitions, and wood nailer alternatives for edge systems.

2024 has been an incredible year for us, and we couldn’t have done it without our amazing members and volunteers. We will be sending our ballots for voting in the near future and hope to continue our success in 2025!
