The building commissioning community was buzzing last week in Fort Worth, Texas, with the announcement of the first class of IIBEC Certified Building Enclosure Commissioning Provider (CBECxP) certification holders. Attendees at CxEnergy, held May 2–5, 2023, were eager to visit the IIBEC booth to learn more about IIBEC’s newest credential.
CxEnergy assembles commissioning providers, energy managers, building owners, facility managers, MEP (mechanical, electrical, and plumbing) engineers, and building enclosure consultants. Longstanding IIBEC members Rick Ziegler, RRC, RRO, PE and Jo Madrid of Wiss, Janney, Elstner Associates Inc. gave a fantastic enclosure commissioning presentation highlighting how building enclosure commissioning (BECx) and performance testing is increasingly required and implemented on more projects than ever before. An effective BECx program can be used to verify that the owner’s project requirements (OPR) have been achieved. The presentation reviewed advanced BECx strategies, performance testing, LEED requirements, and critical but often overlooked strategies to maximize the value of BECx.
