Policy – Environmental Commitment

It is the position of the International Institute of Building Enclosure Consultants (IIBEC) that its members, in the practice of their profession, be committed to protecting human health and natural resources, promoting environmental stewardship, and implementing sound innovative environmental technologies and practices.

Issue

IIBEC and its members are in a unique position to influence and promote sound environmental design strategies and to increase publicawareness of environmental issues within the design and construction industry.  Environmental stewardship initiatives emphasize sustainable development, corporate responsibility, and the building of strong social and environmental ethics.

Rationale

The following objectives are established to aid members in their efforts to achieve environmental commitment:

• Create a culture of design excellence and respect for the environment.
• Learn to identify, analyze, and manage environmental risks and opportunities.
• Minimize any adverse effects on the environment by the design and consulting work performedby the building enclosure profession.
• Comply with or exceed, when possible, all relevant environmental regulations.
• Communicate an environmental commitment to clients, members, and the community.
• Develop and offer relevant environmental education programs to ensure that IIBEC members understand current environmentally conscious practices.
• Proactively address environmental challenges through its business strategy, internal policies, and practices.
