Canadian Government Allocates Funding to Improve Energy Efficiency and Reduce Carbon Emissions June 2, 2023 On May 29, 2023, Jonathan Wilkinson, Canada’s minister of natural resources, and Scott Pearce, president of the Federation of Canadian Municipalities, announced more than $900,000 for six feasibility studies through the Green Municipal Fund’s (GMF) Community Buildings Retrofit initiative to help cities and towns across Ontario find the best approach to reduce energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions at municipally owned buildings. IIBEC Members and Staff Visit NIST’s Engineering Laboratory May 26, 2023 Members of the IIBEC Executive Committee along with staff and other members traveled May 23, 2023, to Gaithersburg, Maryland, the home of the US National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). NIST has chief responsibility for maintaining the US measurement system and enhancing the competitiveness of US industry through scientific and technical support. Chief among the major operational functions of NIST are five laboratories, including its Engineering Laboratory, which hosted IIBEC as part of a “meet and greet” that allowed both parties to discuss how the two organizations could help each other.
