Innovation in Building Envelope Design and Solutions
Call for Abstracts
The So Cal Chapter of RCI, Inc. is seeking abstracts for presentations at the 19th Annual Hawaii Winter Workshop.
Modern design and construction of buildings is growing increasingly complex, with a wide variety of building enclosure products for roofing, waterproofing, insulation, exterior wall cladding, and fenestration applications. To ensure that construction results in air- and water-tight, thermally efficient and continuous, fire-resistant buildings, creative and unique approaches are often required for successful system integration.
The upcoming 2019 workshop will focus on developing solutions to challenging building envelope issues. The primary workshop goal will be to provide attendees with valuable insights on creating unique solutions during the design, construction, and investigation process.
Building envelopes are constantly evolving in scale and complexity as the challenges of compressed construction schedules and demanding budgets intersect with new technologies and ever-changing construction trends. Project stakeholders—including builders, consultants, manufacturers, and designers—all need to collaborate to provide a durable, successful, and ultimately high-performing solution in the face of these dynamic variables. The scope for addressing building envelope issues through innovation can be specific or broad and can include research and development of enclosure products/systems, novel application of existing technologies, advances in investigation methods and testing techniques, and challenging new construction and repair/rehabilitation projects that require thinking outside of the box.
The 2019 workshop strives to provide attendees with greater insight into unique building envelope challenges by addressing manufacturing perspectives of products/systems development, specification during design, installation during construction, and investigation and repair of existing buildings.
Professionals from roofing, waterproofing, architecture, engineering, manufacturing, and construction are invited to submit abstracts for presentations. Submitted abstracts should address any of the following topics, and include creative solutions to challenging building envelope issues and associated case studies:
- Air barriers
- Below-grade waterproofing
- Building science
- Exterior wall cladding
- Building enclosure design
- Energy-efficient design of the building enclosure
- Building enclosure commissioning
- Field observation and testing methods
The deadline for submitting presentation proposals for consideration is Monday, August 13, 2018. Proposals should be submitted as a 250-word (maximum) abstract. Any questions about presentation submissions should be sent to email@example.com.
The Hawaii Winter Workshop is a two-day educational program offering current information regarding design, construction, maintenance, and repair of roofing, waterproofing, and exterior walls. The program is designed to bring together professionals from throughout the industry to discuss building enclosure design, including roofing, waterproofing, walls, and building science. The So Cal Chapter of RCI, Inc. is an AIA- and RCI-approved education provider. Attendees will receive up to 12 RCI CEHs and AIA LUs.
Exhibitor tabletop display and program sponsorship opportunities are available, and details will soon follow.
