In May, ASTM International presented longtime IIBEC member Helene Hardy Pierce with its Katharine E. Morgan Women in Leadership Award in honor of her contributions to ASTM’s roofing and waterproofing committee (D08) and organizational governance.

“The award honors Katharine Morgan, ASTM International’s first woman president, and recognizes female leaders of ASTM committees who have made significant contributions to the development of standards,” the organization said in announcing the award. “Hardy Pierce joined committee D08 in 1984, during a time when it had very few female members. She readily took on roles of greater impact and responsibility, helping to usher in a new era of participation.

“She received the ASTM Award of Merit (1998), two Awards of Appreciation (2005, 2017) and the William C. Cullen Award from committee D08. From 1999-2002, she served on the board of directors for ASTM and then on the executive board as chair of the finance and audit committee in 2003.

“Hardy Pierce most recently served as vice president of building science, regulatory, and industry support from 2000–2022 at GAF.”

An IIBEC member since 1993, Hardy Pierce is an IIBEC fellow and a long-serving member on the IIBEC Interface Editorial Board. In 2022 she received IIBEC’s Outstanding Volunteer Award. She has authored numerous articles for IIBEC Interface, and she also has served on the IIBEC Industry Liaison Committee and the RCI-IIBEC Foundation Board of Directors.
