Objective 2: Discuss items influencing the selection and application of continuous insulation

Objective 3: Explain how the addition of continuous insulation can impact detailing and construction of exterior wall assemblies

Objective 4: Review the effects of continuous insulation on exterior wall testing and performance

Objective 5: Recognize potential roles and benefits of continuous insulation in addition to thermal properties

Abstract Topic Descripion

In the past, thermal requirements in exterior walls was generally achieved by cavity insulation however industry trends and energy codes have strongly influenced the growth of continuous insulation (CI). Incorporating CI introduces many changes, challenges, and new considerations to exterior walls in terms of material choices, testing requirements and methods of construction. This presentation provides education and guidance related to the use of continuous insulation in exterior walls.
