“Buildings don’t usually grow on trees,” says a site promoting the first mass timber commercial building constructed in Ontario in over a hundred years. The office building at 80 Atlantic Avenue in Liberty Village, Toronto, incorporates exposed mass timber columns and beams with exposed cross-laminated timber ceilings.
Designed by Quadrangle, the 8,361m2 (90,000-sq.-ft.), five-story building completes a courtyard with 60 Atlantic to create a paired commercial area. A south-facing curtainwall provides unobstructed views of the timber interiors, while the other three façades are of porcelain rainscreen panels.
