Overview

RROs play a critical role in ensuring that roof installations are completed in accordance with project specifications, design intent, and industry standards. This credential is ideal for individuals who perform on-site observation of roofing projects, monitor compliance with contract documents, and serve as a vital link between the designer, contractor, and owner during construction.

RROs commonly:

Perform roof observation techniques and documentation procedures.
Administer the construction contract and field communication.
Ensure conformance with design details, specifications, and manufacturer requirements.

Application Requirements

Experience: A minimum of two (2) years of roof quality assurance or roofing experience. Alternatively, a minimum of four (4) years of experience as a roof manufacturer’s technical or sales representative.
Project Experience: Provide at least seven (7) projects from personal work history that highlight specific tasks and services relating to roof quality observation.
Continuing Education: Complete 12 hours of continuing education, including attendance/completion of a minimum of three (3) seminars and/or courses within the roofing industry.
- CEHs within past 10 years are accepted.
- Online IIBEC courses are offered – see “Resources” for more information.
Examination: Achieve satisfactory score on the RRO exam.

Application Process

Online Application: Create a user account and complete the application through the IIBEC Community Portal.
- Applications must be completed within one (1) year; otherwise, the application will expire.

Processing Time: Standard processing time is up to 75 days.
- Expedited processing (within 45 days) is available for an additional fee.
  - Expediting fee: $100 members/$150 nonmembers
Approval: Upon approval, information on how to register for the exam will be provided.

3-hour exam featuring 75 multiple-choice questions that involve the following topics:
- Basic Roof Science
- Construction Documents
- Documentation and Reporting
- Field Testing Observation
- Roles, Responsibilities, and Ethics
- Roof Systems and Materials
Testing is completed through Meazure Learning, available at over 1,000 testing centers.
- Exam must be taken and passed within two (2) years of application approval.
- Retakes available every four (4) months. Registration and exam payment completed each time.
