Teitsma’s Daughter Succumbs to Cancer

The staff at RCI is saddened by news from our Education Adviser, Jerry Teitsma, and his wife Libby, who lost their daughter, Laurie Hedgecock, this past weekend. Laurie passed away on Saturday, September 30, after a long battle with cancer, which rendered her unable to communicate for much of the preceding year. She died at home in a deep sleep, for which the family is thankful. Jerry wrote, “After an afternoon of sorrow and tears, there was story telling time and a sense of relief for all. We appreciate your understanding, care, and sympathy over the last two years.” Jerry has taught dozens of classes over the years for RCI, and intends to continue to do so as scheduled. Rossiter Honored at SRWA

Rossiter receives his award for excellence in research.

On Tuesday, September 19, RCI Director of Technical Services Walter J. Rossiter was honored at Carlisle Roofing’s Sustainable Roofing and Waterproofing Alliance (SRWA) conference presented in Hershey Park, PA. Rossiter was awarded the “Excellence in Research” award, which he said was a complete surprise. “It came out of the blue. The host [of the opening ceremony] said, ‘There’s going to be an award for excellence in research,’ and my name popped up. So I went up on the stage and received the award. It was really surprising.” Rossiter’s research contributions are numerous.
