Volunteer as a Student Mentor or Ambassador at the Convention

January 22, 2018

RCI is pleased to announce the continuation of two of its programs for the RCI International Convention & Trade Show in Houston, Texas. RCI is seeking two groups of volunteers: individuals to serve as ambassadors and others to be mentors to the students awarded the RCI convention sponsorships.

RCI Ambassadors

To assist and welcome first-time participants who attend convention, RCI launched the Ambassador program in 2014. RCI Ambassadors serve to make the experience of convention a little less daunting for newcomers.

Ambassadors may share their experiences in the areas of education, events, and leadership opportunities. Questions may range from “What should I wear to the annual banquet?” to “What educational classes may be the most useful to further my career?”

Two Ambassadors will serve 1½- to 2-hour shifts during the hours of registration (2 to 5 PM Friday, March 23, and 7:30 AM to 1 PM on Saturday, March 24.) A brief orientation will be provided prior to each shift. One Continuing Education Hour (CEH) will be awarded to volunteers serving in this role.

Mentors for Students

Since 2012, the RCI Foundation has provided funding for college students in the industry to attend the RCI annual convention. Due to the success of the program, students from all over the United States and Canada are attending convention. We soon realized that students would richly benefit from the wisdom and experience of an RCI member, so we introduced the mentor program at last year’s convention. As it was a success for both students and members, we are offering this program again and are in need of your assistance.

A college student recipient will be matched with an RCI member in the same field of expertise. The student will gain invaluable insight from your experience, suggestions, and guidance, while you have the opportunity to meet new people, help shape the future generation, and give back to the association and industry as a whole.

If you are interested in supporting our association by sharing your time and experience or would like more information, please contact Melany Elwell at melwell@iibec.org.
