David Roodvoets, who was active with IIBEC for several years, died February 2, 2025, at the age of 86.
Roodvoets attended the IIBEC International Convention and Trade Show numerous times between 2004 and 2025. He also authored several articles for IIBEC Interface and presented educational sessions on subjects such as rooftop gardens, wind resistance test standards for shingles, the performance of reflective membranes, and the fundamentals of wind design.
According to a published obituary, Roodvoets, who spent more than 30 years as an associate scientist at Dow Chemical, pursued a second career as a roof consultant after helping to develop an industrial roofing panel.
“He led hurricane damage investigations, conducted wind tunnel and environmental exposure tests used to develop construction standards, and was a regular speaker at association conferences,” the obituary states. “He contributed to the improved survival of newer homes and buildings in extreme storms. He was still actively working until the end.”
According to the obituary, Roodvoets is survived by “his son, Scott (Liz Witzler) Roodvoets; daughters, Diane Hughes, Brenda (Pete) Trefon, and Lisa (Glenn) Huckins; grandchildren, Mitchell (Chelsea), Audrey, Bailey, Fiona, Aidan, Haley (Connor), Summer, Kimberly, Kelly, Jake, and Allison; great-grandchildren, Carter, Emmett, Eli, and Greyson; sister, Sarah (Ken) Meyer; and dear friends, Lori Sheehan and Joyce Brownell.”
