Herbert B. Fishman, a former member of IIBEC and owner of HB Fishman & Co. Inc. (HBF), died December 19, 2021. A family obituary said Fishman had battled Parkinson’s disease for 17 years.
IIBEC member and president of HB Fishman & Co. Inc. John Wooten remembered Fishman as a mentor to each HBF team member, and as a caring and thoughtful leader. Wooten worked with Fishman beginning in 1985 and said he learned a great deal about roofing and life from him.
Longtime IIBEC member Walt Rossiter, F-IIBEC, remembered Fishman as a pioneer in the roofing industry. “Forty years ago the commercial industrial roofing industry was in a state of extreme flux, moving from the use of traditional bituminous roofing products to the now familiar flexible synthetic products,” he said. “During that era, Herb Fishman was one of the leaders in the move to develop needed standards for the newer roofing products.” Fishman was a leader in the standardization community, said Rossiter, who worked with Fishman on the ASTM Technical Committee D08 on Roofing and Waterproofing.
Fishman is survived by his wife, Ruth, to whom he was married for 63 years; two sons and a daughter; and seven grandchildren.
