IIBEC is proud to announce its second new branch of 2023, the IIBEC Central States Branch. Under the guidance of the IIBEC Chicago Area Chapter, the Central States Branch will be led by member Cale Prokopf, REWO, RRO. The branch’s geographical region covers Missouri, Kansas, and Southern Illinois, with an open invitation to members in Nebraska and Iowa.
Are you looking to get involved? Please contact Branch Liaison Cale Prokopf directly, Region III Director Charles Sietmann, or Tara Cottle, IIBEC director of regional and chapter relations.
The IIBEC Chicago Area Chapter recently launched the first edition of their new quarterly newsletter.
The comprehensive newsletter covers all aspects of the chapter’s operations, including current and past events, member news, IIBEC announcements, and a roster of new and returning members. To sign up to receive this quarterly update, head over to the IIBEC Chicago Area Chapter’s website and enter your information at the bottom of the page.
The chapter also recently presented their Spring Meeting, boasting 46 attendees. The chapter’s emerging professionals were present, along with student members, who were recognized with certificates. The chapter took this opportunity to honor member Christopher Shields in memoriam with a donation to his favorite charity, Shults Lewis Child and Family Services.
During a technical session, members learned about code history, format, and adoption. Jason Wilen’s presentation helped attendees appreciate the low-slope roof system; identify roofing-related building and energy code provisions; and better understand Chicago and Illinois code adoption and amendments.
The morning concluded with Frank Castagnoli’s valuable information on vegetative rooftop gardens. Understanding the components of a vegetated roof assembly and discussing of how “green roofs” can be used as part of a low-impact development storm water management plan are vital to helping manage water issues in the chapter’s area, as well as in the rest of the country.
