Jesse Torres, RRC, RRO, a founding member of the IIBEC Metro New York Chapter, has recently been promoted to associate principal at Wiss, Janney, Elstner Associates, Inc. (WJE). Since joining WJE in 2007, Torres has provided professional services primarily in the investigation and rehabilitation of building enclosure systems. Prior to joining WJE, he worked for a multidisciplinary engineering firm in Exton, Pennsylvania, and with a roof consulting firm in West Lawn, Pennsylvania. Torres has more than 25 years of experience and has provided building enclosure services to architects, contractors, and owners for new construction projects as well as design and construction period services for several repair and rehabilitation projects. He has experience with all major low- and steep-slope roofing systems, including built-up roofing, single-ply membrane, modified bitumen, liquid-applied, polyurethane foam, sheet metal, asphalt shingle, and slate shingle.
Torres is a former president of both the IIBEC Delaware Valley and IIBEC Metro New York chapters, and he has served or is currently serving on the Nominating Committee, the Advocacy Committee, the Task Force on Diversity and Inclusion, and the State and Local Advocacy Subcommittee for IIBEC.
Peter David Spafford, age 65, passed away suddenly of a heart attack on November 5, 2020, at his home in Thunder Bay, Ontario. Spafford was born on January 21, 1955, in Neepawa, Manitoba. Raised on a farm on the edge of Riding Mountain National Park, he could operate and maintain almost any piece of machinery. His many and varied careers included, but was not limited to, heavy machinery operator, drill rig operator, custom harvester, and carpenter. During the last 25 or so years he was Air Barrier Association of America’s director of quality assurance. He was an instructor, an educator, and a true force in the air barrier industry. He trained contractors and inspectors in the spray foam industry and was known for his expert knowledge, professionalism, and kindness. He personally inspected the construction of the National Museum of the American Indian, a part of the Smithsonian National Museum in Washington, D.C.
