Helene Pierce, F-IIBEC, VP of Technical Services, Codes, and Industry Relations at GAF, received the ASTM International William C. Cullen Award, bestowed by Technical Committee D08 on Roofing and Waterproofing. This award recognizes Pierce’s outstanding contributions and personal commitment to the field of roofing as exemplified by the distinguished accomplishments of William C. Cullen, who was also Pierce’s mentor. She is a Fellow of IIBEC (F-IIIBEC) who has served on the RCI Foundation board for nearly two decades, served on the IIBEC Interface Editorial Committee, and penned countless contributions to the journal. The award was presented by George Smith.
Kirk Goodrum, Director of Technical Development for Siplast, received ASTM International’s Distinguished Leadership Award for his dedication to Technical Committee D08 and his 10-year commitment to standard development. Goodrum is an Industry Affiliate member of IIBEC, and an IIBEC Interface author.
Dr. Ralph M. Paroli of the National Research Council of Canada was named as ASTM International Committee D08’s newest fellow. The Award of Merit is the highest society award granted to an individual member for distinguished service and outstanding participation in ASTM committee activities. Paroli was cited “For outstanding leadership, distinguished service, and personal dedication in advancing the standards of ASTM International Committee D08 on Roofing and Waterproofing, and for noteworthy contributions to ASTM International Standing Committees including a term as Chairman of the Board of Directors.” Paroli is on the board of directors of the RCI Foundation Canada, the US RCI Foundation, and is a Government Liaison member of IIBEC.
Tom Taylor, Executive Director of Building & Roofing Science for GAF Materials Corp., received an award from ASTM International for his efforts and leadership on D6878, Standard Specification for Thermoplastic Polyolefin Based Sheet Roofing. Taylor holds approximately 35 patents and received his PhD in chemistry. He is an Industry Affiliate member of IIBEC who has presented at several of our education events and penned numerous articles for IIBEC Interface.
Ray Wetherholt, F-IIBEC, RBEC, RRC, RWC, REWC, PE, has retired from Wetherholt and Associates Inc., the firm he founded in Kirkland, WA, in 1984. Wetherholt has been a member of IIBEC since 1998 and is a graduate of the University of Washington. He has served on the IIBEC Education Committee, as well as serving on the Registration Committee in one capacity or another since 2003, including chairing the RWC Exam Development Committee from 2015-2018. He has also written nearly two dozen articles for IIBEC Interface.
Nick Sabino, president of Deer Park Roofing, Inc., Cincinnati, OH, and an Industry member of IIBEC, has been elected as chairman of the 2019-20 board of directors for the National Roofing Contractors Association (NRCA).
David Vokey, PEng, founder, president, and CEO of Detec Systems, LLC, received the ASTM International Committee D08’s Carl G. Cash award for his technical work in electronic leak detection (ELD). The Cash Award acknowledges outstanding research-oriented publications that have lasting impact on the advancement of building envelope technology. Vokey was cited: In recognition of your distinguished research contributions, dedication, and leadership to advancing building envelope science and technology, and in particular your efforts on standardizing methods for detecting breaches in roofing and waterproofing membranes, as evidenced by your paper “Electrical Conductance Methods for Locating Leaks in Roofing and Waterproof Membranes.” Vokey is a Consultant member of IIBEC who has presented about ELD and the codes at IIBEC educational sessions.
