This week’s featured speaker for the 2025 IIBEC Building Enclosure Symposium (BES) is Javeriya Hasan. Don’t miss Javeriya speaking on October 27 at 3:00 p.m. during her presentation, “Building Enclosure Forensics and the Need for a Site Communications Strategy.” We asked Javeriya a few questions:

What can attendees look forward to learning from your session?

If you have ever wondered how small design or construction mistakes can lead to major problems in buildings, this session is for you. We will explore three case studies where minor oversights caused serious issues like moisture intrusion and condensation from air leaks in custom built homes. Through the lens of building forensics, you will learn how to spot early warning signs of failure, understand the root causes, and recognize how miscommunication between architects, builders, and installers often plays a major role. You will also gain practical insights on recommendations to keep everyone aligned and prevent these issues from happening in the first place.

If you have attended BES in the past, what is your favorite memory?

One of my most memorable experiences was moderating two sessions at the 2024 IIBEC/OBEC Building Enclosure Symposium, held from September 29 to October 1, 2024, in Toronto. This event brought together leading professionals in the building enclosure industry to explore innovative solutions in areas such as roofing, waterproofing, and exterior walls. Beyond the sessions, the symposium offered a rich environment for learning and networking, allowing me to connect with peers and stay abreast of the latest developments in the field.
