On Friday, July 29, Region II held its annual meeting at the Hilton Garden Inn Airport/Millennium Center in Atlanta, GA. The meeting was an all-day session with 67 attendees and 15 tabletop sponsors. During the morning learning sessions, Mike Maguire with Roxul presented information on insulating alternatives to foam plastics, and Jennifer Kelly of USG highlighted technologies and challenges relating to air barriers.
The business meeting was conducted immediately after lunch. Region Director Scott Hinesley (REI Engineers, Inc.) reinforced the need for continued advocacy from both procurement and building code perspectives. Derek Cundiff (Cornett & Cundiff, Inc.) continued by advising he was recently appointed to the Advocacy Committee and would welcome input or feedback from all members. Chris Giffin (Wiss, Janney, Elstner Associates, Inc.) outlined recent modifications to the RCI Document Competition, and Second Vice President Michael Clark (Michael E. Clark and Associates) reported on upcoming national events, including the RCI Building Envelope Symposium on October 17-18 in Houston. Hinesley closed by asking anyone interested in submitting his or her name as a candidate for the region director position to please let him know.
Immediately after the business meeting, Christopher Norris (Walter P. Moore & Associates) delivered an in-depth presentation on performance modeling and mock-up testing of custom curtain wall systems. Closing out the afternoon were Derek Cundiff (Cornett & Cundiff, Inc.) and April McKelvey (Monarch Consulting Services, LLC), who outlined many of the lesser-known (or lesser-enforced) code requirements for roof replacement projects.
Region II would like to thank all attendees for their participation, with a special mention to the exhibitors, including Carlisle, Certainteed, DB Services, Georgia Pacific, Peak Fall Protection, Polyguard, Roxul, S-5!, Seaman Corp, Sika Roofing, Siplast, Team Craft Roofing, TuffWrap, Uniflex, and USG Roofing Solutions.
