Overview

Earning the RRC designation affirms a deep understanding of roofing materials performance, design standards, and best practices across the roofing industry. RRCs bring proven expertise helping to ensure quality, longevity, and value in every project.

RRCs commonly:

Develop and review roof design documents, drawings, and technical specifications
Provide objective recommendations for repair, replacement, or maintenance strategies.
Assess and diagnose roofing system conditions to identify causes of leaks or failures.
Conduct site visits to observe roof construction and ensure compliance with project requirements.
Advise building owners, architects, and contractors on roofing materials performance and design standards.
Prepare detailed roofing reports and documentation that support quality, durability, and cost-effective solutions.

Application Requirements

Experience: A minimum of four (4) years of roof consulting experience.
Points System: Accumulate at least 100 points through a combination of work experience, education, and/or professional registration.
Project Experience: Provide at least 10 projects from personal work history that highlight specific tasks and services relating to roof consulting.
Continuing Education: Complete 70 hours of continuing education, including attendance/completion of a minimum of three (3) seminars and/or courses within the roofing, waterproofing, and/or exterior wall industries.
- CEHs within past 10 years are accepted.
- Online IIBEC courses are offered – see “Resources” section for additional information.
Examinations: Achieve satisfactory scores on both the RRC and General Consultant Knowledge (GCK) exams.
- If GCK passed previously, it is not required to be taken again.

Application Process

Online Application: Create a user account and complete the application through the IIBEC Community Portal.
- Applications must be completed within one (1) year; otherwise, the application will expire.

Processing Time: Standard processing time is up to 75 days.
- Expedited processing (within 45 days) is available for an additional fee.
  - Expediting fee: $100 members/$150 nonmembers
Approval: Upon approval, information on how to register for the exam(s) will be provided.

Exam

Four-hour exam featuring 60 multiple-choice questions that involve the following topics:
- Analysis and Design
- Assemblies
- Codes and Standards
- Materials and Properties
Unless already taken and passed, a passing score on the General Consultant Knowledge Exam (GCK) is required.
- If only one (1) of the two (2) exams is passed, candidate need only retake the outstanding exam.
Testing is completed through Meazure Learning, available at over 1,000 testing centers.
- Exam must be taken and passed within two (2) years of application approval.
- Retakes available every four (4) months. Registration and exam payment completed each time.

Continuing Education
- - Complete 12 roofing, waterproofing, and/or exterior wall-related continuing education hours (CEHs).
  - CEHs can be self-reported through the IIBEC Community Portal
  - Continuing Education Hour (CEH) requirements and renewal guidelines are available in the Resources section below. Credential holders are responsible for reviewing and complying with the current CEH Requirements & Guidelines applicable to their credential.

General Consultant Knowledge Exam (GCK)

Exam tests knowledge common to all components of the building enclosure (roofing, waterproofing, and exterior walls).
Four-hour exam, consisting of 90 multiple-choice questions testing knowledge in the following areas:
- Agreements
- Codes and Standards
- Communications and reports
- Construction administration
- Ethics
- General skills
- Procurement Process
- Ethics
Once passed, the GCK exam will not need to be retaken when applying for additional consultant designations.
