Phil Dregger, F-IIBEC, RRC, PE, is a friendly face to IIBEC. For the last two decades, he has been equally familiar to SIGDERS. SIGDERS (Special Interest Group on Dynamic Evaluation of Roofing Systems) is a research and development consortia located at the National Research Council of Canada. The mandate of SIGDERS’s joint research program is to carry out generic, precompetitive research of benefit to all its members. Representing IIBEC, Dregger attended SIGDERS meetings for the last 20 years by traveling all the way from Canada’s west coast to Ottawa. At the SIGDERS summer meeting, Dregger passed the torch to Ted Sheridan, F-IIBEC, RBEC, PEng, as IIBEC’s representative at SIGDERS.
With his extensive design experience, Dregger has made a significant contribution to SIGDERS over the past two decades. His ability to provide valuable feedback and pose probing questions to uncover scientific truths assisted in enhancing roofing research and development. As the voice of IIBEC, he identified field design issues that helped SIGDERS improve the performance of roofs and mitigate failure. Nevertheless, his question to SIGDERS, “Whether use of a 3 second wind gust speed is applicable for roof design?” still remains unanswered!
Known for his approachable and outgoing personality, Dregger has been a valuable resource for colleagues seeking advice on roofing issues. He will be missed at SIGDERS gatherings, but his legacy will continue to influence the industry for years to come. Thank you, Phil, for your participation at the SIGDERS!
