IIBEC Members Successful at Code Hearings April 23, 2026 IIBEC Codes and Standards Advisor Emily Lorenz and a team of IIBEC members successfully testified on two critical code change proposals during the ICC public comment hearings in Hartford, Connecticut, last week. IIBEC members successfully opposed proposal S-46 that would have removed the reroofing section (1512) from the International Building Code and inserted a pointer to the International Existing Building Code. There were several concerns with the proposal, and industry groups from ARMA, FSC, SPRI, and others joined the opposition to this change. Codes and Standards
Cooperative Purchasing Bills on the Rise April 22, 2026 This legislative cycle, IIBEC is tracking an increasing number of cooperative purchasing bills advancing rapidly through state legislatures. These proposals have the potential to significantly impact how building enclosure systems are designed, specified, and procured. Net-Zero/Carbon-Neutral Retrofits, 140 Kendrick St. Case Study: Tactics, Tradeoffs, and Takeaways April 9, 2026 This case study will focus on 140 Kendrick St., Building A, a 106,000 ft2 (9,850 m2) office building that has undergone a retrofit focused on improving overall operational efficiency and occupant comfort. Building A is the first net-zero, carbon-neutral office repositioning of this scale in Massachusetts, meaning that it is a highly energy-efficient building that produces renewable energy on site to meet building operations’ energy consumption annually.
