It’s good to know that there are so many routines to make sure siding is properly installed. My wife and I want secured siding that won’t blow away in our windy area. We’ll be sure to keep your article in mind as we find a service to help us! Reply
I had Nichiha Fiber Cement siding installed on my home in 2005. Within the first year some boards cracked on two separate occasions. The builder had them replaced. I assumed it was fixed. Now 5 years later I have discovered multiple cracks some tiny some severe, and some of the siding is pulling away from the walls. I have had contractors who install siding look at it, and a Nichiha siding rep look at it. All have said the incorrect nails were used. The have referred to the nails used as finish nails and trim nails. The house is not blind nailed at all. Not all butt joints land on studs. The Nichiha rep referred to the nails at the butt joints as pin-backs. The nails are not spaced in a particular interval. The finish/trim nails are all located on the face of the boards and there are several per board not just at the butt joints. I am looking for advise on this situation. Is this a situation where the only option is to replace all of the siding? If I go to court where do I find the best expert witnesses? I live in a small town (in Oklahoma), and I have only found one contractor that has worked with fiber cement siding and will replace the siding. All the other siding contractors I have spoken with say they do not install fiber cement siding due to issues with the product cracking, and that it is difficult to install. I have contacted the builder I used, and the builder is not responding on how to remedy this issue. Reply
